Senior Associate - Principal Track

Wenk Associates, Inc., an established, award-winning landscape architecture and planning firm, located in Denver's Golden Triangle, has immediate openings for a Senior Associate (Principal Track).

Specializing in public realm projects that encompass urban waterway revitalization, water quality improvements, parks, open space and greenways, and infill urban design, our office is seeking highly versatile candidates with experience in carrying projects from master planning through design and construction. Ideal candidates should possess:

• A minimum of six years' professional experience as a practicing landscape architect, with a portfolio of built work.
• A Colorado landscape architecture license (ideally, CLARB certification as well). LEED accreditation highly desirable.
• Strong graphic skills (both computer and hand graphics).
• Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
• Strong team player.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Current and advanced technical knowledge of design, construction, detailing and plant materials.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully managing large, complex projects including managing between 5-7 projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated experience in securing follow-on work from clients.
• Demonstrated ability to take on managerial roles and functions within the office, beyond individual project responsibilities.

The candidate will function in four roles within the office:

Project Manager or Senior Project Manager (depending on experience). Responsibilities include:

a) Ultimate responsibility for completion of projects in accordance with schedule and budget goals and at a very high level of quality.
b) Technical leadership and direction of assigned projects, including conceptualization of design/implementation problems, technical direction of the work of staff and subconsultants.
c) Quality review of project products.
d) Project planning (fiscal, staffing, workflow), fulfillment of contracted responsibilities, management against contracted workscope.

• Technical Quality Review Manager. Responsibilities include:

a) In collaboration with Principal(s), conduct in-house, interim, design review and project critiques.
b) Lead constructability review of all drawing submittals and provide redline comments.
c) Provide technical advice and guidance to staff responsible for construction detailing and spec writing; lead technical colloquia where necessary.
d) Stamp drawings as required.
e) Review and certify others in the office to assume selected quality review responsibilities as appropriate.
f) Provide initial review of proposed work scopes and fee estimates, prior to principal review.

Selected Operational Responsibilities. The candidate will be expected to assume additional selected office operating responsibilities beyond the individual project. Depending on the skills and interest of the individual, these could include any or some of the following:

a) Coordination of recruiting efforts (hiring decisions subject to principal approval).
b) Coordination of internal project staffing and workflow management, oversight of long-range workload planning (with administrative support).
c) Leadership/coordination of internal monthly management review (depending on contractual savvy; commitment of any financial resources as well as contract negotiations require a principal)
d) Oversight and leadership of the firm's long-range technology strategy, leadership of work group to recommend capital purchases.
e) Participation in long-range benefits planning workgroup (comprised of principals and CFO).
f) Coordination of mid-year and annual performance appraisal process.
g) Participation in firm strategic planning and associated marketing strategy.

• Firm Promotion and Business Development. The candidate will be expected to assume additional business development responsibilities. Depending on the skills of the individual, these could include any or some of the following:

a) Development of follow-on work and repeat business with existing clients.
b) Preparation of proposals and associated interviews in response to RFP/RFQs.
c) Preparation of publications and conference presentations, and other similar activities that elevate the visibility and profile of the firm.
d) Identification of potential teaming and partnering opportunities and cultivation of these relationships.

Senior Associate (Principal Track) or Principal

Wenk Associates, Inc., an established, award-winning landscape architecture and planning firm, located in Denver's Golden Triangle, has immediate openings for a Senior Associate (Principal track) or Principal, with a demonstrated body of work in water resources (urban waterway revitalization, water quality), public space (parks, greenways, open space), campus or institutional planning and design, or urban design/infill redevelopment.

Specializing in public realm projects that encompass urban waterway revitalization, water quality improvements, parks, open space and greenways, and infill urban design, our office is seeking highly versatile candidates with experience in carrying projects from master planning through design and construction. Ideal candidates should possess:

• A minimum of six years' professional experience as a practicing landscape architect, with a portfolio of built work and/or a track record of producing award-winning master planning projects.
• A Colorado landscape architecture license (ideally, CLARB certification as well). LEED accreditation highly desirable.
• Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.
• Outstanding leadership skills and strong team player.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Current and advanced technical knowledge of design, construction, detailing and plant materials.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully managing large, complex projects including managing between 5-7 projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated experience in successfully navigating complex stakeholder and community involvement and City review processes.
• Very established client base (local or national) and demonstrated ability to develop new client relationships through competitive or non-competitive processes.
• Ability to envision a future; strategic and critical thinking skills to plan the moves and react to unplanned events; leadership skills to get others to buy in.
• Entrepreneurial outlook.
• Ability to identify new potential leaders within the practice and help them develop their skills.

The candidate will function in two roles within the office:

• Senior Project Manager. Responsibilities include:

a) Directing and managing large and complex design and/or planning projects in the office, including conceptualization of design/implementation problems, technical direction of the work of staff and subconsultants, and management of stakeholder, community, and City processes.
b) Quality review of project products.
c) Project planning (fiscal, staffing, workflow), fulfillment of contracted responsibilities, management against contracted workscope.

• Practice Leader/Manager. Responsibilities include:

a) Lead role in development and management of an existing or new line of business, or "practice" for the firm, including:

• developing a business plan for the practice which includes quantitative and qualitative goals, strategy, expected outcomes, return on firm's financial investment;
• achieving revenue, sales and profit targets, within development budgets negotiated with the firm (quantitative portion of the plan);
• achieving qualitative portion of the plan (deepen existing markets, expand client list, open new markets etc.)
• developing client, subconsultant and teaming partner relationships to support business development;
• mobilizing, leading and organizing staff within the firm to achieve practice goals.

b) Shared role in ensuring that practice projects are delivered according to schedule and budget targets and that all issues of a potentially contractual nature are identified, documented and addressed
c) Identification of staff within and outside the practice who have leadership potential; growing and developing these staff
d) Ongoing commitment to developing technical and business management skills that further the recognition or development of the practice
