Red Rocks Park
The City and County of Denver retained Wenk Associates to develop a restoration and enhancement master plan for the 640-acre Red Rocks Park. Originally built in the 1930s by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the amphitheater and sensitive landscape had suffered from overuse and lack of resources for maintenance. Plan recommendations included measures to repair or restore the visual, historic, and natural resources of the site and amphitheater.

The planning process included preparation of an environmental assessment as well as extensive public involvement to identify potential restoration scenarios, which included limited expansion and restoration of the amphitheater - now known nationally as an example of the integration of architecture into the landscape. Expanded day use was improved by enhancing visitor and interpretive facilities, including a new picnic shelter and over a mile of natural resources interpretive trail with linkages to regional open space trails. The project contained a comprehensive signage plan, restoration of an historic garden, geologic marker and native vegetation.
