Wenk Associates created the Master Plan for Aurora's first large urban park, located on a 155-acre site consisting of shortgrass prairie and organized around Tollgate Creek. The Master Plan is sensitive to these features, while incorporating the Colorado Freedom Memorial, group pavilions, a unique large playground, gathering spaces for events and seasonal performances, and a sprayground. The plan sets a precedent for preserving and incorporating significant site features into future urban parks that may be developed in the City, as well as a precedent for sustainable use of water resources in large scale park design. The Park will serve multiple functions for the City, and will expand the role of the park to create a community-gathering place, a protected native landscape, and a venue for year-round activities for the City's citizens.
