Mining operations in the Blue River Valley earlier in this century left the river with little aesthetic appeal or ecological value. The Town of Breckenridge recognized the river corridor's potential value as a recreational and natural resource, and retained Wenk Associates to develop concepts that would restore the river to a more natural state and create a series of urban, public spaces for celebrations and informal events.
