Wenk Associates completed the site plan and landscape design for a new Gold LEED certifiable student union building on the Fort Lewis College Campus. Challenges included the reconfiguration and appearance of the central campus quad as the foreground to the new student union; routing of new pedestrian walkways and service/emergency routes; and creating a sustainable landscape that minimizes water consumption, treats stormwater runoff and blends the campus environment with the dramatic natural landscape of the area. Work included conceptual design through construction documentation.
Sustainable elements, such as minimized water consumption in the landscape, contributed to a LEED-Gold certification.
Student gathering spaces and native landscapes frame and give definition to the new Union building and campus Quad.
