Salt Lake City Green Loop wins ASLA Chapter Awards for Analysis and Planning

Wenk staff accept award at ASLA Colorado event.

The SLC Green Loop project won an Honor Award in Analysis and Planning from the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) Utah chapter and a Merit Award in the same category from the ASLA Colorado/Wyoming Chapter. The award recognizes our team’s innovative work on the Salt Lake City Green Loop master plan.
The Green Loop, a 5.5-mile circuit of linear green space in downtown Salt Lake City, is proposed to overhaul downtown transit, mitigate the heat island effect, improve air quality, increase habitat for pollinators, and provide critical ecosystem services such as stormwater management.

Wenk Vice-President and Principal Greg Dorolek was at the Utah awards ceremony and presented the project at the event. “It is personally and professionally satisfying to work on such an impactful project. And now, we are excited to begin our work implementing The Green Loop along the 500 West corridor,” Dorolek said.

Currently, less than two percent of downtown Utah is green space, and land acquisition for parks is not feasible. The Green Loop, a concept first proposed by the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce and Downtown Alliance over 15 years ago, aims to increase public green space within the downtown core. Wenk served as the lead consultant on the project and was responsible for project management, design, team coordination, executive leadership and technical advisory team collaboration, and facilitating public outreach.
