Lakewood Civic Center Plaza

Lakewood, CO

Much-needed parking structure improvements provide an opportunity for the City to enhance its central civic space.

The Lakewood Civic Center Plaza, located in the center of the city’s civic campus, is the front door for all governmental affairs. With an aging parking structure requiring new waterproofing and a deteriorating plaza full of spalling concrete, the City had an opportunity to improve its image while renovating the parking structure.

Wenk Associates developed concepts that would improve the plaza from a functionality standpoint and improve its aesthetic qualities and finishes. New features include an outdoor concert stage to accommodate the summer concert series, a water feature that creates a soothing ambient sound throughout the plaza area, and an enhanced planting scheme to improve shade while demonstrating the best xeric plants for the regional climate.
