Mountain Lake Loop

Shoreline stabilization and day use area improvements at Cherry Creek State Park.

For the Mountain and Lake Loop day use areas at Cherry Creek Reservoir at Cherry Creek State Park, Wenk provided conceptual design through construction documents and construction observation for shoreline stabilization and erosion control for a 10-acre site along the shores of the reservoir. A variety of stabilization methods include breakwaters, which mimic natural processes to stabilize the shoreline, reduce erosion, and help build healthier beaches. Improved trails, beaches, and habitat areas are integrated with water quality infiltration areas to buffer parking and roadways, and to provide a landscape with sound ecological function and enhanced recreation space. The project included a new parking lot, rehabilitation of an existing parking lot, pull-off areas, a trailhead, two restrooms, and trail connections.
