Natural setting inspires a playground of discovery

The natural setting of the 100-acre Sand Creek Park inspired the original 1996 master plan and the 2014 amendment (both completed by Wenk Associates) that addresses the drastically changed context of the park since the initial plan. Based on extensive public input to preserve the natural setting as much as possible, areas for discovery, playful adventure, and gathering are thoughtfully placed within the existing prairie landscape.

Wenk Associates led schematic design, design development, and construction documentation for Sand Creek Park Phase 2 Discovery Playground and East Pavilion, and is currently providing construction observation services for the project.

In keeping with the master plan goals, the playground is designed to fit within the natural character of the open space, integrating natural drainage elements, landform, and native vegetation into a playful discovery area that mimics the mature cottonwood forest.
